Castle Von Frandsen is a “real” castle under construction on the shores of Lake Pend Oreille in northern Idaho. The castle and the Frandsen Forrest are available for filming purposes and private events. It has been the site for a couple of minor films and and the History Channel has already done a program on the build. THC funded a portion of the costs of the 45' bell tower up the mountain.
The approximately 8,000 sf of interior space is in vanilla shell state. This does not include the flat deck portions of the roof areas referred to as the widow's walk or the top outside viewing area of the Norman tower. It has granite walls both exterior and interior. Ceilings are beamed from timbers hewn from the Frandsen Forrest and stone fireplaces are on multiple levels. The bell tower has a circular stairway to the viewing level. The site has 680+ feet of Lake Pend Oreille shore front, mostly cliff side and 552' of stone battlement walls. A deep water dock and slips will easily handle the largest vessels. The eagles make the castle forest trees home. The owner is asking market rates per week but will consider offsets for agreed upon improvements.

The stonework battlement walls span 552 feet on the 60 foot cliff tops and the castle walls are granite imported from Canada from the same quarry which supplied the material for the Empress Hotel in Victoria, B.C. The timbers and beams were hewn from the trees in the surrounding Frandsen Forrest. The castle has 440 amp service, water from a private well, and sewer services are installed. The dock access is through an amazing underground stone tunnel created by Castle Magic which extends from the dock area, beneath the battlement walls, and then up to the fortress lower levels and pool. The site on Lake Pend Oreille is surrounded by the Cabinet, Selkirk and Bitteroot Mountain Ranges. It is private, very secure and with outstanding views of the Schweitzer ski mountain, both Upper and Lower Mt. Baldy, the Seven Sisters mountain range, Chimney Rock, Bald Eagle Peak, and Tressel Creek Valley near Hope ID. Lake Pend Oreille is the 5th deepest lake in North America and the site enjoys panoramic views of the surrounding glacier carved peaks and valleys. The majority of the shoreline on this 43 mile long lake is uninhabited. There are numerous locations on this lake's 111 miles of shoreline for supporting scene locations. The owner will allow some prior approved modifications to the property and will consider some reductions in the rents for acceptable modifications that stay with the property.
A "go see" from Spokane International Airport via helicopter or to the site via float plane is available. The site is otherwise best accessed by boat from Sandpoint ID but the overland roads to the CVF are adequate for heavy equipment and standard vehicles beginning in the late spring. There is limited parking on site probably not to exceed 20 vehicles but in the adjacent Frandsen Forrest there is an area to the south up the mountain a short distance available for staging equipment and for additional parking.
