This Fairytale Castle is situated between Bordeaux and Cognac, S.W.France was established on the site of a medieval wood fortress, in the area of High Saintonge. Besieged many times, through the centuries, it passes regularly since its construction to 11th century, of the Crown of France to that of England, to become again definitively French in 15th century.

The Castle enters the family of Lorraine to 18th then fall into the public domain, with the abolition of the feudal rights, after the French revolution.

With the beginning of the 19th century, in 1813, the field is sold to the Count Charles Nicolas Duchâtel, who in turn undertakes great work of restoration which transforms this masonry with the feudal paces mainly.

Before dying, the Count bequeaths his castle to his nephew, who with the state and more particularly with the Ministry for the War, assigns the building to the hospitalization and the convalescence of the soldiers. In the 20th century, given up by the army in the Seventies, the castle is repurchased by the area which wishes to safeguard the invaluable saintongeais inheritance. However, in spite of its goodwill, the department must separate some for financial reasons. Maintenance is too expensive.

In 1992, a wealthy American person repurchases and transforms the castle into hotel. During a few years, the site easily attracts customers. But thereafter, the economic activity is not profitable any more and the castle closes its doors to fall asleep again.
