The original rear section of the home was built in 1910, the front addition of the home was built in 1930. During Prohibition, making alcohol at home was a very common way of earning extra income. In 1930, In addition to a larger front living room and porch addition, the owner added a secret second basement under the living area and concealed the entrance with a trap door in the porch floor. The ground floor is of open and flowing construction. The living room ( 14' x 14') leads into the dining room ( 16' x 14') into a smaller (7' x 7') open kitchen with island. The ground floor has a 1/2 bathroom.
A 12 stair staircase leads up to the second floor. The second floor opens into a smaller room ( 11' x 10' ) that has a day bed. This room has a full length double sliding mirrored doors and a closet. The master bedroom ( 14' x 13' ) has a large bay window with a view of the Staten Island tower of the Verrazano-Narrows Bridge.
This property also offers 3 different and unique entrances. First, as seen in the photo, is the entrance into the living room. Second entrance has a small cement stoop leading to a small covered porch and a separate screen door and doorway. Third entrance is a down a narrow set of cement stairs that leads to a steel door that leads to the semi-finished basement.
Each entrance could be used as different locations within the same film project.
